Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Super Mario Brothers Coloring Pages

YES! If you play Super Mario Brothers or know anything about the video game franchise these two brothers are as thick-as-thieves. I mean Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Piranha Plants, etc. I can’t even list all the things these two have had to endure! And through it all they stay family. Anyway, for this particular coloring page release I’m doing a two-for-one special: two brothers, one release.

These two were pretty much already chibi but I added the ‘Vanquish touch’ to them. Enjoy!

New Coloring Page – Yoshi

30 Days to Phoenix Fan Fusion

Countdown to Phoenix Fan Fusion! It’s only, yes, ONLY 30 days away! Holy moly. I need to draw a new armored Batman and Suicide Squad Harley Quinn. I have Baby Groot but I still need to color it. Sheesh! Time flies. The mission is on!

New Coloring Page Release

In the meantime, enjoy Yoshi. Truly, it wasn’t that hard to draw Yoshi because he is basically a chibi character already. I did have fun inking the different line weights. I’m still not sure if the red bump on Yoshi’s back is a shell or a saddle. I have no clue. I’ve seen Mario on Yoshi’s back so it looks like a saddle but the bump is convex instead of concave (like a real saddle) so it’s unclear. Confusing.

New Coloring Page – Bowser

Continuing with my release of video game-themed coloring pages, I’m presenting Bowser. This character is the nemesis for most of the Super Mario Brother franchise. Although it wasn’t so in the very beginning. I remember a big gorilla throwing barrels at Mario as he climbed ladders to save a damsel in distress. I remember trying to play Donkey Kong at the arcades and failing miserably at it. I was able to play Super Mario Brothers pretty well by the time the Nintendo gaming unit came into the home market. It was a blast! I played Excite Bike and Super Mario Brothers as well as Duck Hunt. I think those games were the standard for starting out. Jackal was one of my favorite games to play. I loved my Nintendo!

Anyway, a tribute to villain at the beginning of it all – Bowser.

Practice Sketching: Experiment!

No, I haven’t forgotten about my tutorials. My dog chewed the tip of the power cord that plugs into my camera. No camera, no tutorials. I ordered another cord but it didn’t get to me in time to film this week’s video. I publish “how to” videos every Thursday on my You Tube channel.┬áSo what do you do when you have a deadline to meet and no power cord? Use older footage of course! Luckily, I record many things at once and then edit them later.

I found this footage of a character I was experimenting with for my best friend’s comic. Why experiment? For several reasons. First, changing reference material slightly is a safe way to change the look and mood of an artwork before you commit. Nothing is more frustrating than creating a drawing and then realizing, once it’s finished, that the pose is off, or you could have changed this or that. I like to use reference material so I can look at the anatomy and shading accurately but then change it and make the drawing my own.

I also like to practice with reference material because you can experiment with the shading. Try lighting from the left and then from the right. Change it up! In the video I’m practicing my foreshortening to make the arms and legs look as though they are coming forward.

Check out this crazy footage. Actually, a YouTube channel is more difficult than it might seem. Don’t mind the mistakes in editing and filming, I’m getting better as time goes on, remember this was last year!

Assassin’s Creed Coloring Page

I bought the Assassin’s Creed Trilogy about a few years ago for the PS 3. I tried to play it and I’m on the one with Ezio in Renaissance Italy. I’m stuck at one part because I can’t get off the darn rooftops. I’ll figure it out eventually.

I understand there are a SEVERAL different versions of this game. If I wanted to make a coloring page series about it I probably could! Assassin’s Creed II, III, Black Flag, Revelations, Rogue, Unity – sheesh! There are a lot of choices for drawing. I decided to make this version for my first gaming coloring page.

By the way, where is a good site for help jumping on and over to rooftops? I’m stuck on that part in Assassin’s Creed II (the one in Italy during the Renaissance). Let me know of any “how to” sites online to get past that part in the comments.

Added New Pages

Since I’m getting ready for Phoenix Fan Fusion in May, I seriously need to update my originals section for my booth this year. I’ve sold out of most of my originals, which is a pretty good problem to have, I’m not complaining! First on the list, some nostalgia.

My best friend wanted a tattoo of He-Man, which I did draw for him. He didn’t get the tattoo. So instead of sulking I decided to make a matching Skeletor. I think these two originals will definitely appeal to anyone who watched Saturday cartoons in the 80’s or after school cartoons (let’s not forget syndication) in the 80’s as well. We all know about He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I may continue the series, who knows? I added new pages to the navigation of my website to account for all the new stuff coming.

Stay tuned! My gaming series is on it’s way.
