This is a little view of the booths, fans, art, toys, costumes, and collectibles available at Phoenix’s biggest con event! Enjoy.
I just made a few videos for the YouTube channel which I will be able to embed into my posts so stay tuned.
As for coloring pages, I actually get them from the original inked drawings I make for my prints. Recently, however, my business partner and I think we should concentrate on more original and unusual stuff for the originals I sell at cons. Since Dev Fare is coming up and Vanquish Studio will be there, I NEED IDEAS! Anyway, a dark manga called Black Butler seems a good choice and Attack on Titan is a challenge to draw in chibi style. So I’m going to try and create those characters. I also think I should do a One-Piece, One-Punch Man, and Naruto. That brings the total to five new originals (and possibly coloring pages). Any other ideas? Please leave a comment.
In the mean time, I drew this as a tattoo for a friend. He never did it. That’s okay, you can still enjoy the art. Next up is a matching Skeletor! I may do a series on old television shows like the Thundercats. Hmmm. . . .
Venom is a Living Symbiote! And now a NEW Coloring Page…
I really didn’t read too much of the Spider-Man comics when I first got into comics. Actually, I was more of an Image Comics kinda gal since I was interested in coloring, inking, and pencilling – the art. However, one cannot deny that a good storyline, careful pacing of plotlines, and development of interesting, dynamic characters goes a long way. The comics I was reading didn’t have that. Sorry Image. So I started reading more cerebral comics like the Watchmen and reading other independent comics and mangas.
I must confess, however that I DID read some Spiderman comics when Venom was introduced. The thought of an alien creature attaching itself to a human was fascinating.
Of course, like all good ideas it was used TO DEATH! Marvel actually introduced offspring, yes children, of the original Venom: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. Seriously? Then they did another story with his five children called “The Planet of the Symbiotes” (around the mid 90’s). They also, as if we didn’t have enough symbiotes at this point, did a comic called Along Came a Spider which introduced the symbiote anti-hero Hybrid. I’m not against making a dollar with a good story, I just think you CAN use an idea too much. I still like the original Venom and I think he was a fantastic villain for the Spiderverse and made an equally awesome anti-hero.
On that note, I went to the movie theater last year to check out Tom Hardy’s depiction of Eddie Brock AND Venom. I understand the actor was the voice of the symbiote and had recorded those parts in the mornings before filming so he could act against them as the human. I liked the movie only the human villain, played by Riz Ahmed (he’s the genius inventor Dr. Carlton Drake who discovered the alien symbiotes and is head of the Life Foundation)I found to be rather ordinary and not too threatening. He was a sleazeball but not necessarily as dangerous as he needed to be. The other escaped symbiote Riot, who becomes bonded with Dr. Drake at the end of the movie, could have been stronger and more diabolical as well. I think you have to have a clever, devious, strong villain in order to really appreciate the hero’s/heroine’s efforts. Hmmmm, thats just me I guess. Well, I still like Venom and I thought he would make an awesome coloring page. Click the link below the thumbnail to download the latest addition to the Vanquish Studio library!
Have You Been Practicing?
I’ve been working on drawing the female head, more specifically, faces. And remember? I needed to work on the jawline, eyes, nose, and lips. Check out my pre-assessment from a few days ago. I self-critiqued myself when it comes to drawing the female head and face. Yes! I’m working on it and yes, I’ll post the results soon.
Well, I sold out, yes SOLD OUT! of the first edition Groot. Thank you to EVERYONE who bought a print and made that run a success. So, as true Vanquish Studio fashion, there is a different edition for the new year. Ever since the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out (which I really liked), it seems as though everyone just LOVES Baby Groot. And what’s not to love? An adorable little plant that is just too cute even for his captors! I finished the pencils for a new Groot during the Tucson Comic Con and my business partner liked it so much she told me to scan it and color it. OKAY! Here is a sneak peek of the inks. The generic gradient background is just for showing the inks. I’m going to color this one very carefully! Comment and let me know what you think!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS from Vanquish Studio
This is usually the time when people get together with family and eat so much food it feels like your going to explode! Well, I know a great way to burn off all those calories. DRAW! Okay, I’m kidding, drawing doesn’t really burn off calories but it does make you better at drawing.
Enjoy your holiday and get back to drawing!
